Stone Carver
Tracery Replacement on Grace Chruch in NYC

Taylor Knight was part of a four-man team who demolished the tracery stone of Grace Church half way down and then replaced it all by mounting new block in place. They then carved the new stone in place.
Grace Church, is located at the corner of East 10th Street, where Broadway bends to the south-southeast, bringing it in alignment with the avenues in Manhattan's grid.
Construction started in 1843, however, some of the marble stone used at the time was faulty and over the years acid rain precipitated an accelerated deterioration of parts of the church.
The stained glass meanwhile was shipped to Boston for restoration and installed after all the carving was completed. The stained glass was made by Clay & Bell as well as Henry Holiday in the late 19th century.
Taylor Knight has also made other works in stone such as this fountain bowl.
This fountain bowl was commissioned as a prototype from which a mold was made and reproductions manufactured for a company which produces tiered fountains and statuary company made of concrete or "cast stone".
