TAYLOR KNIGHT
Hello
As a dedicated secondary art teacher, I foster engaging, student-centered learning experiences that empower students to express their unique creativity, build confidence, and achieve meaningful growth in their artistic and personal development.
MY STORY
As a passionate art educator and professional artist, I am dedicated to empowering secondary students to express their unique voices through art. My journey began at 25 in New York City, where I honed my skills in oil painting and stone sculpture, drawing inspiration from the Old Masters. The city’s dynamic energy expanded my creative practice, leading me to embrace digital media and conceptual art, which enriched my ability to connect with diverse perspectives and ideas.
I earned my degree from the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, collaborating with exceptional faculty and peers to deepen my technical and creative expertise. This experience sparked my passion for education, as I saw the profound impact art can have on young minds. After graduating, I assisted in the Fine Art department, where I discovered the joy of guiding students to unlock their potential.
For five years, I taught art to youth from diverse backgrounds, including at-risk students, fostering a classroom built on trust, high expectations, and creative exploration. As a Utah-certified educator now pursuing Maryland certification, I use a student-centered, choice-based approach to celebrate the rich experiences and perspectives students bring to the classroom. By connecting art to their personal and cultural identities, I help them develop critical thinking, confidence, and creativity that resonate beyond the art room.
Currently, I collaborate with creative teams to deliver bold, innovative visual solutions, a skill I bring to designing engaging, standards-aligned projects for secondary students. My goal as an art teacher is to nurture each student’s unique spark, guiding them to create vibrant, meaningful work that reflects their individuality and inspires growth.
